How we developed and deployed Dynamic LMS platform to provide elearning for the NHS.

How do you save over half a million pounds in training costs each year?

Dorset Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust knows how.

Since 2016, Dorset has partnered with Dynamic to deploy an enterprise level LMS platform.

After a competitive tender process, Dynamic was selected as the preferred supplier for the integrated single sign-on Dynamic LMS and a range of bespoke elearning courses.

Over the last few years, Dynamic LMS (known locally as eHub) has become the go-to place for all employees to be trained.

They have successfully made digital learning the primary method of mandatory training, whilst still utilising face-to-face delivery for more specialist skills.

However, this didn’t happen by chance.

A dedicated project team was established to work with Dynamic on the implementation and an experienced digital learning manager was recruited to administer the LMS platform and develop further course content.

Dorset has a 6,000 strong workforce providing community care services to 750,000 people across a large region, offering a range of mental and physical health services for children and adults.

Staff are dispersed across the region, many working in rural offices, as lone workers or in community hospitals.

Travelling to attend face-to-face training added significant time, reduced accessibility and took staff away from patient care, which, in turn, required other staff to cover their duties.

Changing the mandatory training curriculum to exploit the benefits of digital learning was a must, but years later, what was the actual impact of this.

Recently, Dorset Healthcare reviewed their use of Dynamic LMS and the bespoke elearning content. The review took into account staff travel time, expenses, back-fill costs and training delivery costs.

As an example, just one course which was converted from face-to-face delivery to digital delivery meant that 3,000 staff hours were saved and could be devoted to patient care. The estimated savings for mandatory training alone were £566,000 per year.

So how has the LMS platform evolved today?

There are now over 300 courses available, the vast majority of which are specialist healthcare and Trust-specific training, not generic bought-in courses. This has seen a 20-fold increase in digital learning in just a few years. The Trust even used the LMS platform for staff to book their COVID-19 vaccine slots at the Trust early on in the pandemic.

"It is a pleasure to work with such a can do team as Dynamic.

Every step of the creation deployment and running of our LMS has had both the support it has needed and the technical expertise to help keep us on track."
