Follow the Flush
Working in collaboration with Scottish Water, we developed a blended learning solution for primary school children throughout Scotland.
Introduction
With Droplet, children go on an interactive journey where they discover the consequences to the environment when the wrong things are flushed down the toilet or poured down the sink, and discover what they can do to help.
It’s a truly unique learning experience that can either be completed at school, as part of a curriculum or individually, from home.

Follow the Flush – An interactive journey
In this interactive elearning module, Droplet needs the children’s decision-making skills to save Flushtown from an environmental disaster. People in Flushtown are flushing all the wrong things down the toilet, which is causing the wastewater pipes to become blocked by Felix Fatberg and spill over into the burns, rivers, lochs and seaside.
The town’s next hero is the children! Throughout the elearning, various choices and challenges appear on the screen so they can make decisions that directly impact on the town’s health.
Each decision made impacts on:
- The happiness of the people and animals living in the town.
- The town’s pollution levels.
- The cleanliness of the water.

Everyone loves a game and we certainly loved making this one with Scottish Water.
Droplet and the Invasion of the Unflushables is an educational side-scrolling video game which allows children to consolidate the learning from Follow the Flush, but through all the fun and excitement of a game.
Created especially for primary school children, they continue their journey with Droplet and friends to help save Flushtown from the nasty unflushables!
Don’t just take our word for it. Here’s a sample of what children and parents had to say:
A child:
“It was fun to squish the big poos!”
A parent:
“The kids enjoyed it and liked the facts and questions that popped up along the way (the Goldfish was the best!).”
A parent:
“The game is very playable and we like the colours and graphics. We love the game and hope it attracts a lot of players and passes on a very important message.”
A parent:
“She really loved the game and found the challenge exciting. The message surrounding what can go down the toilet was really positive and she asked me more questions after the game finished.”
A parent:
“Max enjoyed the questions along the way and he is very competitive so doing this against the clock with the chance of earning stars was great for him and kept him motivated.”
A child:
“There was cool animals and a £60,000 diamond ring. I liked the character, he looked funny.”
The teachers lesson plan
The teachers lesson plan, which can also be used by parents and guardians, completes the blended solution.
It helps enrich the experience and learning opportunities for those children who are completing the interactive Follow the Flush elearning module in class or at home.
Designed to be used with Follow the Flush – An interactive journey, the lesson plan provides six activities, with resource sheets that teachers, parents and guardians can complete with children. Each activity ties in with the interactive journey in the elearning and provides children with the opportunity to further their understanding.
“Love the look and feel of these resource packs, thank you. I really like the selection of ideas for activities teachers could do with their class and most also work well for parents if they are going to pick up.
Thank you and the team for all your hard work on this, I really believe we’ve created something unique which will inspire, amuse and educate young people.”
