Leading the way for men's mental health

Based in the UK, Tough to Talk is a leading men’s mental health charity dedicated to breaking the silence that leads to suicide.

The charity is founded on the simple principle that every single man should have access to the support they need—when they need it most.

Affecting, morale, productivity and an organisation's success

Tough To Talk is a pioneering organisation, founded by Steve Whittle, who amongst other areas, has male-centric workplaces in his sights. As Steve says, “Employee well-being is more than just a workplace trend. It directly impacts productivity, morale, and an organisation’s success.”

That’s why Tough To Talk are on a mission to help businesses and public sector organisations to support their staff whilst tackling one of the most challenging issues around, right now: male suicide.

Breaking the silence—and the barriers

As Steve continues, “Every day, 17 people in Wales and England take their own lives. 12 of those are men and that reveals an urgent need to address the barriers preventing men from speaking out about their struggles, such as isolation, stigma and a real lack of awareness about the help available to them”.

A partnership for positivity

So, in partnership with the team here at Dynamic, Tough To Talk have developed targeted elearning modules to address the critical points which can often lead men to suicidal thoughts. And as we are totally driven by elearning that transforms organisations, people and indeed, lives, here at Dynamic, we couldn’t think of a better cause on which to apply our expertise.

Why elearning works

The gambling elearning module is just one piece of the puzzle. Tough to Talk have a range of elearning modules aimed at various sectors to tackle a whole host of factors which contribute to mental health struggles, including stress, financial difficulties, relationship challenges and more. As Dynamic’s Pete Johnson mentions, “Tough To Talk’s elearning platform will be totally adaptable, being easy to roll out and tailored to different issues and organisations. More and more companies are realising not just the ethics of investing in mental health education, but the value, too. It’s just good business.

In terms of getting this material in front of men, they can undertake each module at their own convenience, in their own time, on any device, in privacy. It’s a great medium in which to communicate some vital messages.”

A brighter future

Tough To Talk has bold plans of expanding their partnerships with male-centric industries and organisations to introduce invaluable resources to even more vulnerable men. The charity wants to ensure every man not only knows how to identify and manage mental health struggles but is also empowered to create a robust support network, both in and out of the workplace.
