Cardiac Care CPD elearning programme for nurses
When Manchester Foundation NHS Trust approached us to develop a Cardiac Care Continued Professional Development (CPD) elearning programme for nurses, we knew that this project was going to need to be both educationally robust and engaging.

elearning to combat a national issue
Cardiovascular disease—which is an umbrella term for a range of heart-related health conditions, such as coronary heart disease, heart failure and stroke—is one of the leading causes of morbidity (illness) and mortality (death) in the UK.

Improving more positive patient outcomes
Ensuring that healthcare professionals are equipped with up-to-date knowledge and skills is essential to improving patient outcomes. This is especially so for nurses, who are often a first point of contact for patients at risk of or living with heart disease, as nurses play a key role in the prevention, early detection and management of cardiac conditions.
The solution
Working closely with the Trust’s Cardiac Care subject matter experts, we explored the key development needs and identified the primary learning objectives; to then determine the required content and shape it into a clear, concise and structured learning journey.
The programme comprised five elearning modules, covering:

Coronary heart disease

Cardiac surgery

Acute and chronic heart failure

Heart transplantation

Arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats)

The Trust’s experts provided the core content, and we took it from there; curating, researching and refining the material to ensure clarity, relevance and learner engagement. Each module was designed to be coherent, interactive and visually engaging to make complex topics more digestible.
To bring the learning to life, we designed, produced and incorporated:
- Graphical illustrations and GiFs to instil visual clarity.
- Motion graphics and video content, including procedural demonstrations.
- Interactive elements to keep learners actively engaged.
- Signposts to subject-related policies, procedures and professional body-stated guidance.
